Since Elon Musk bought the very famous social media « Twitter » (later re-called « X »), many users went to look for different apps to share their ideas and discover opinions. Many new social medias were created over the past two years. Threads, created by Meta and therefore Mark Zuckerberg, Bluesky, created by Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey, Post.news, created by Noam Bardin, former Waze’s CEO and even Truth Social, created by the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
Each of them (including X) pretend to focus on free speech. It quickly became a huge business for social media apps since the 2020’s pandemic but despite those wonderful promises, reality shows that many do not actually support so-called « free » speech. Elon Musk shut down accounts he didn’t agreed with (such as « Elon’s Jet » and several journalist’s accounts), Donald Trump banned pro-choice posts, discussion on the January 6th Capitol’s insurrections and even some Conservatives opinions as a 2022 Public Citizen Report showed.
